Introduction 项目介绍
Pre-University Program of LEC, SJTU is a non-degree program designed for international students to enhance their language skills, academic performance, and cultural adaptability. The students can thus lay a solid foundation for their further undergraduate study. Pre-University students can get the priority of being accepted to the undergraduate program at SJTU upon passing the official assessment test.
Chinese Program: This program is designed for students who have already achieved a good level of Chinese language proficiency (HSK 4≥180 or equivalent) but require remediation in academic subjects such as Chinese, English, and Mathematics. The duration is one year. A limited number of mid-term transfer slots are available for outstanding students in the second semester.
English Program: This program targets international students with English proficiency (TOEFL≥80, IELTS≥5.5, or equivalent) to advance their English, Mathematics, and other academic skills. This program is conducted in English and lasts for one year. A limited number of mid-term transfer slots are available for outstanding students in the second semester.
Both programs offer three specialized tracks to meet students' further education goals: Science, Engineering & Agriculture; Medicine; and Humanities & Social Sciences.
The above program is an extension program, not related to any credit or degree. It is an academic course that is taken by students voluntarily.
Eligibility申请资格
1. High school diploma and above.
2. Non-Chinese citizens holding a valid foreign passport, in compliance with the relevant regulations of the Chinese Ministry of Education, including the “Document No. 12 (2020) of Ministry of Education of the PRC" and etc.
3. Good physical and mental health, with no criminal record.
4. Applicants must be between the ages of 16 (inclusive) and 23 (exclusive).
Curriculum 课程设置
Chinese Program
Registration for Chinese Program (1 year) starts in September 2026 (the specific time will be informed on the admission notice), with two semesters in one school year. Registration for Chinese Program (0.5 year) starts in February 2027 (the specific time will be informed on the admission notice) and extends over a period of half a year with one semester. Students will join the ongoing cohort of Chinese Program (1 year).

1. The curriculum may be adjusted to meet specific further education requirements and cater to students' academic abilities.
2. Chinese is the primary language of instruction.
3. Each semester, students select 1-2 major electives and 1 general elective.
English Program

Features 项目特色
The Pre-University Program enables students to improve their academic level and adapt to university life. Meanwhile, enriching cultural experience, on-site visits, academic subject contests as well as artistic and athletic activities are arranged to help enhance students’ capability and competitiveness. The program provides professional coaching for CSCA and HSK examinations, coupled with dedicated undergraduate admissions counseling, offering end-to-end support to guide international students through their successful entry into Chinese universities.

Application Materials and Fees 申请材料及申请费
Application Materials
All application materials and information provided by applicants must be authentic, accurate and fully complete. Otherwise, the applicant will be disqualified for application, enrollment or study.
1. Senior high school diploma or equivalent qualification. Prospective graduates may provide an official high school transcript as proof of graduation.
2. High school profile. The content should include the school's overall introduction, admission requirements, enrollment rate, curriculum system, grading system, university acceptance of graduates, etc..
3. Passport information page valid for more than 6 months. Once admitted, passport information cannot be changed until enrollment registration is completed.
4. A personal photograph (color portrait, hat-free).
5. Personal Statement (must be signed by the applicant; 600–1000 words) covering, but not limited to: personal background, hobbies and strengths, reasons for applying to the program, and study plans.
6. One recommendation letter, signed by the recommender and including their contact information (email address and phone number).
7. Academic certificates:
7.1 High school transcript (covering all courses completed during high school). Prospective graduates must submit a transcript of all high school courses completed up to the application date.
7.2 Standardized international test scores or national/regional unified high school graduation or university entrance exam results, such as SAT, AP, ACT, A-Level, IB, UEC, etc. If the above results cannot be provided, a written explanation can be submitted.
8. Language certificate:
8.1 Chinese Program (1 year) applicants should provide HSK certificate (HSK 4 score ≥ 180) or equivalent certificate. Chinese Program (0.5 year) applicants should provide HSK certificate (HSK 5 score ≥ 200, with Writing score ≥ 60) or equivalent certificate, such as documentation indicating Chinese as a native language.
8.2 English Program (1 year) applicants should provide one of the following:
• TOEFL score report (total score ≥ 80)
• IELTS score report (total score ≥ 5.5)
• Proof of being a native English speaker
• Certificate of at least two years of full-time academic study conducted in English
English Program (0.5 year) applicants should provide one of the following:
• TOEFL score report (total score ≥ 90)
• IELTS score report (total score ≥ 6.0)
• Proof of being a native English speaker
• Certificate of at least two years of full-time academic study conducted in English
9. Applicant's birth certificate.
10. The nationality or household registration of both the applicant's parents, such as passport or ID card.
11. Applicant whose one or both parents are Chinese citizens should provide the following materials:
11.1 Certificate of the applicant’s foreign nationality obtained at birth or afterward.
11.2 For applicants who acquired foreign nationality at birth:
(a) If one or both parents were Chinese citizens and had permanent residence abroad at the time of the applicant's birth, provide the corresponding permanent residence proof of the parent(s).
(b) If one or both parents were Chinese citizens and did not have permanent residence abroad at the time of the applicant's birth, provide a certificate of the applicant's renunciation of Chinese nationality for at least four years by April 30 of the application year.
11.3 For applicants who are originally Chinese citizens and later acquired foreign nationality, provide proof of cancellation of their Chinese residence registration and renunciation of Chinese nationality for at least four years by April 30 of the application year.
11.4 All visas, residence permits, and entry/exit records for China, starting from the applicant's first passport.
11.5 Statement of Integrity
Note: Applicants who previously held a "People's Republic of China Travel Document" or "People's Republic of China Exit and Entry Permit" must provide the relevant documentation as in section 11.3.
12. Applicants under the age of 18 as of September 1, 2026 (inclusive) for the Fall intake, or as of February 1, 2027 (inclusive) for the Spring intake, must submit a Guardian Guarantee Form.
13. Award certificates (if any).
14. Other supportive materials required by SJTU.
Note:
①If any of the above application materials are not in Chinese or English, a notarized translation in Chinese or English shall be provided.
②There is no need to mail hard copies of supporting materials during application.
Application Procedures 申请流程
1.Visit https://elearning.sjtu.edu.cn/register, register your account by following the instructions, and then enter the online application system;
2.Complete the application form as required, upload the electronic application materials.
3.Pay the application fee of CNY 800 and click to submit the application.
Interview 面试
The admission decision is based on a comprehensive evaluation of all the application materials as well as integrative test (by case basis). Notifications of interview (if applicable) arrangements will be sent via email.
Admission 录取
1. The admission decision will be made based on a comprehensive evaluation. Applicants may check their admission results in the application system https://elearning.sjtu.edu.cn/register.
2. Upon receiving a pre-admission notice, applicants are required to confirm their enrollment via tuition fee payment in the application system. The payment shall be made within two weeks upon the release of the pre-admission results.
3. The "Admission Notice" for the Spring intake programs will be issued in batches from the end of January, and those for the Fall intake programs will be issued in batches from the end of July.
4. Applicants may download the electronic admission notices through the application system. Physical copies of the admission notices will be provided during registration at the beginning of the semester.
Application Deadline 申请截止日期
The Fall intake programs: 2026 July 31st (Students applying for Scholarship should submit their applications before 2026 July 1st )
The Spring intake programs: 2027 January 15th
1. Application Fee
CNY 800. The application fee is non-refundable once paid.
2. Tuition Fee
Note: The above fees include tuition and undergraduate application guidance fees, excluding textbook fees, insurance fees, accommodation fees and other expenses.
3. Insurance Fee
RMB 800 per academic year. The relevant regulations by the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China and the Management Regulations for International Student of SJTU require all international students to purchase the Group Comprehensive Insurance in Mainland of China as a prerequisite for the registration procedures.
4. Accommodation Fee
CNY 700 per month (quad room). Guaranteed on-campus accommodation is provided for all students in Pre-University Program at Qibao Campus. Specific dormitory rooms will be assigned by the university.
Scholarship 奖学金
Pre-University Program offers two types of scholarships: the "Freshman Scholarship" and the "Outstanding Student Scholarship". The funding criteria are as follows:
Students applying for freshman scholarship should click the option “Apply for scholarship” when completing the online application form.
Note:
① The Freshman Scholarship is exclusively available to new students enrolled in the one-year program (fall start). The evaluation will be conducted within one month following the application deadline.
② Applicants who pass the initial review will proceed to a scholarship interview. The interview schedule will be informed via email, and the results will be announced after the semester begins.
③ The above scholarships cannot be applied to tuition fees.

Fall Semester: Early September, 2026

Accommodation and management 住宿与管理
The accommodation will be arranged by SJTU on Qibao campus. The specific dormitories are allocated by the school.
Dormitory Fee: 700 yuan per month (quad room, utilities included)
Miscellaneous 补充说明
A minimum enrollment of 10 students is required for each program. If this number is not met, the program will be canceled, and tuition will be fully refunded.
